The Spanish psychological drama "Dancing on Glass" traces their friendship as the two ballerinas flee to a world isolated from all the oppressive expectations of the real world. I'm currently streaming on Netflix.
PLOT OVERVIEW
The opening scene implies a call for a new prima ballerina to replace the ex-Maria who dances to her death. The reason for her actions was not revealed until the second half of the movie.
The film, after Maria`s introduction scene, displays `Las Niñas de Cristal: un ballet en dos actos,` establishing a structure of `A Ballet in Two Acts`. This structure divides the whole film into `two Acts`. Act 1 introduces the dynamics of the Irene and Aurora family. On the one hand, the family is less interested in ballet and sees it as entertainment, while the other is somewhat obsessed with ballet.
Eileen's family believes that ballet is not worth the time and energy she spends on it, but she pressures herself to achieve the perfection required by ballet life at the expense of her health. Shows symptoms of anorexia nervosa.
Aurora is once a ballerina and lives with her mother, who has never survived her life. In this way, she pressures her daughter to be the perfect ballerina and forces her to "get along with her other children."
After that, Irene is given the opportunity to become the next Primavererina, and Aurora joins her as the latest member. Everyone is envious of her new title, so Irene finds a new friend in Aurora.
As their friendship becomes more intimate, the plot gets thicker and somehow ends her current act with an encounter with an Aurora car accident.
Act II begins with her revelation that Aurora must meet the therapist to survive the accident and deal with the farewell to Irene. Meanwhile, her mother has a hard time distinguishing them, and Irene tries to get in touch with her.
