STORY
Professional photographers Vinod Chopra and Sudhir Mishra open a photo studio in Bombay's prestigious Haji Ali district and hope to earn enough money to stay afloat. After a disastrous start, they get a job from the editor of "Khabardar," a publication that exposes the scandalous lives of the rich and famous. They accepted it and began working with the editor, Shobha Sen, on a story that exposed the relationship between an unscrupulous builder, Tarneja, and corrupt city commissioner D`Mello. During their investigation, they discovered that another builder, Ahuja, Tarneja's commercial rival, was also involved in this transaction to obtain a contract to build four D'Mello overpasses. The duo is then tasked with secretly creating a rift between Tarneja and Ahuja at their ex's home, where they will compromise on the contracts D'Mello gives them. Vinod and Sudhir somehow try to regulate their relationship by secretly informing Tarneja's assistant, Ashok, in the guise of Albert Pinto, that Ahuja is indeed Shobha's friend and wants to trick Tarneja. The rift persisted until Tarneja's secretary Priya went to Deputy City Commissioner Srivastav and told them that D'Mello had not given the contract to Tarneja or Ahuja but to someone else.
While working on the story, Sudhir and Vinod decided to enter a photography contest that brought home a cash prize of Rs 5000/- and took some pictures all over town. Developing their image, in one of the photos, they see a man shooting someone, and, after zooming in, they realize the killer is none other than Tarneja himself. They immediately returned to the park where they took this photo and eventually discovered the crime scene. They found the body behind the bushes but before the duo could reach the body it was gone, but they managed to get one of the two golden cufflinks. Sometime later, they attended the dedication ceremony of the bridge in memory of the late D'Mello, who is believed to have passed away from a terminal illness. There, they discovered the other cufflink. They returned at night and dug up the area and dug up a coffin containing D'Mello's body.
They took several pictures of the corpse and carried it with them, hoping to expose Tarneja. However, the body disappears and they lie to Shobha that the body is safely hidden with them. In turn, Shobha started blackmailing Tarneja. He invites her, Vinod, and Sudhir to dinner and sets a ticking time bomb to kill them. Unfortunately, the bomb explodes after all three escape. Later, they learn that the bridge built in D'Mello's memory has collapsed and the police suspect Vinod and Sudhir. Eventually, the duo discovered Shobha's blackmail and after telling her the truth that the body was missing, the duo said their goodbyes to Shobha after realizing there was no difference between her and Tarneja.
Vinod and Sudhir discover that the body belongs to Ahuja, who drunkenly carried the coffin back to his farm. They steal the corpse but not before Tarneja, Ahuja, Srivastav, Shobha, and others join in, leading to a series of comic confusions.
The climax is set on a landscape script by Mahabharata, specifically the appearance of the episode Draupadi Cheer-Haran, which is reversed with the duo and group following them putting themselves in the scene with the corpse playing the role of Draupadi. . The iconic sequence also includes a scene from Salim and Anarkali's ill-fated romance with the corpse playing Anarkali.
Finally, the police arrive and Vinod and Sudhir present their evidence to the officer. Srivastav told the officer to wait a few minutes before arresting Tarneja. Tarneja tells Ahuja and Shobha that if he goes to jail, he will make sure that their wrongdoings are exposed as well. In a difficult ending, they all come to an agreement and Srivastav manages to pin D'Mello's murder, and the bridge collapse on Vinod and Sudhir. In the final scene, Vinod and Sudhir are shown months/years after being released from prison, still in their prison clothes. They turn towards the camera and make a symbolic exorbitant gesture, signifying the death of justice and truth.
